Why does Google rewrite my title?

Since 2021 Google has rewritten titles ~60% of the time — using H1, anchor text, or other on-page signals when it judges your ` ` tag as too long, keyword-stuffed, or not matching the page content. To keep your title, write it clearly, under ~580 pixels (~60 chars), and align it with the H1 and search intent.

Why pixel width and not character count?

Fonts have variable character widths. An `i` is ~3 px wide; a `W` is ~11 px. A title of 60 W's will truncate; 60 i's will fit. Google measures pixel width, so this tool does the same. The character count is an approximation; the pixel-width bar is what actually matters.

What's the ideal meta description length?

120–160 characters for desktop, 100–130 for mobile. Too short (under 80) looks sparse and Google may pull its own. Too long (over 160) gets cut mid-sentence with `...`. Front-load the key benefit so the tail truncation doesn't lose the point.
