What counts as a 'word'?

A word is any continuous sequence of letters, digits, or apostrophes, separated by whitespace or punctuation. Case is ignored ('The' and 'the' merge). Numbers are included as words by default.

Common function words (the, a, an, of, to, in, it, is, that, and, etc.) that carry little topical meaning. Toggle the stop-word filter to exclude them and see the content-bearing words.

How do I use this for SEO keyword density?

Paste your article, enable the stop-word filter, and look at the top 10–20 words. The percentage column tells you each word's density — aim for natural distribution, not keyword stuffing.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. All analysis runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored.
