Annual average CPI-U (Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers) published by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. CPI-U covers roughly 93% of the US population and is the standard index for general inflation.

How is inflation calculated?

Equivalent value = amount × (CPI_end / CPI_start). Total inflation = (CPI_end / CPI_start − 1) × 100%. Annualized rate is the geometric average: (CPI_end / CPI_start)^(1/years) − 1.

Why do results differ slightly from other calculators?

Other tools may use monthly CPI, CPI-W (urban wage earners), or chained CPI (C-CPI-U). This calculator uses annual-average CPI-U, which matches the BLS historical series most commonly cited.

Does this include 2025 data?
